Early Greece-2000 BCE-800 BCE
Minoans-2000-1400 BCE. These people had no written language. They traded goods Mycenaeans-1400-1200 BCE. These people spoke Greek. This was also the time of the Trojan War Dorians-1100-800 BCE. This was considered the "Dark Age." This is the time of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey Greek City States-800-500 BCE. The first Olympics were during this time period. The greek myths and legends were huge here. Persian War-492 BCE This was between Persia and Greece. There was a victory at Marathons. The Greek ended up winning this war Peloponnesian War-431 BCE. This war was between Athens and Sparta. Sparta allied with the Persian people and won. Greece starts to decline. Hellenistic Greece-323-146 BCE. This is the time period of Alexander the Great. In their culture they were learning about medicine. |
Trojan War- 1200 BCE.
First Olympic Games-776 BCE. The early olympics have some differences and some similarities to the Olympics we are familiar with today. For example some of the events are the same. They had running, jumping, and discus throwing. Todays Olympics add more events. A difference is Ancient Olympics took 1 day to complete all the events. Now the Olympics last 2 weeks.
