The Greek City-States had a major effect on us today. For example the Greek people had a democracy. In the United States today we have such thing as a Democracy. There are some differences between our democracy and the Ancient Greek one, but they have the same idea of giving the power to the people. Every Greek who met the qualifications could vote. You had to be a male, a citizen, and over the age of 18 to be able to vote. Only 125 of the population could vote. The people that could vote voted on everything though. Ours is a little different today. We vote people in. We vote for the President and the cabinet members. We do not vote on specific laws though. We vote for the people who vote on the laws. Also both male and women over the age of 18 can vote. More people today can vote compared to Ancient Greece. One way they are similar is you can take a person out. If the Greek people did not like the way one person is running something, then the people could vote to take the people out. Today the president can get impeached. So even though there was some differences, our democracy we have today formed from the Greek's. Without the Greek people we may not have the democracy we have today.
